NOTES ON AN OLD TIMETABLE
DURING the past several years, Model Craftsman Publishing Corhas been engaged in an accelerated improvement program, only a portion of which has been obvious to readers of this magazine. We've replaced antiquated office machinery with the latest office and billing
equipment available. Just recently we started doing our own subscription addressing and are speedily converting our mailing list to include the new zip codes, far in advance of new postal requirements.
To meet the needs of model railroaders, we are expanding our Carstens Hobby Book line to include specialized subjects at modest prices with information that is authoritative and attractively packaged.
Railroad Model Craftsman Magazine has also been getting attention. Within recent months we've switched to poly-mailing bags and hope to use these on foreign shipments when our present stock of envelopes is used up. We've switched to full process 4-color covers and we're constantly striving to bring you better editorial material, too.
Effective with the July 1965 issue, we're making another big and costly improvement. We're converting to slick, machine coated paper. The result should provide even finer reproduction than is now obtained on our special matte finish stock. If you like our new paper, we hope you'll tell your model railroading pals cnd get them to try the new, improved RMC.
Incidently, did you know that RMC makes very extensive use of freelance writers? We rely heavily on the best writers we can get and they're all active model railroaders like your. If you think you can write, give it a try and send in your material. We'd be happy to see it. And some of our best authors received reject slips before they finally made the grade. And speaking of RMC writers, one of our writers whose name shall be kept confidential never told us about the following story, which is true. We heard about it from a policeman and model rail who serves this general area. It happened about 18 months ago and the writer had attended the annual staff Christmas luncheon, had departed, and was on his way home, when our gendarme friend spotted the car which was traveling too fast. In the course of conversation, our errant writer mentioned that he was coming from the RMC luncheon, etc., etc., and the cop, an ardent HOer, started plying the questions on model construction. So, being an RIVIC writer saved one author from a good old New Jersey unfixable ticket. The moral is, write for RMC, don't speed, and you won't get tickets.
