BACK COVER IN TACT - ALL PAGES ARE COMPLETE
EVER since the first full color cutouts appeared in RAILROAD MODEL CRAFTSMAN in the
October 1953 issue, modelers have been writing to the editors requesting that the series be made available in a separate book on heavy stock. This volume will, we hope, satisfy those readers.
There are twenty different structures in this Manual, ranging in size from a tiny privy to a single stall engine house large enough to hold a single unit diesel road engine. The buildings provided will create an attractive junction point on your railroad, complete to beanery and newsstand.
The assembly of the basic structures is simple. Use a good pair of scissors or a modeling knife to make your cuts. If you use the knife, guide it's edge with a straight edge to assure yourself of neat, professional appearing results. Any good brand of model cement can be used to fasten the component parts together. No roof is included for the control tower. A plan and dimensions are given for making one from a square piece of cardboard. Paint black when cemented in place.
Extra detail may be added to almost all of the structures. Strips of pre-painted precision shaped wood will add a three dimensional quality that will greatly increase realism. Be careful not to use too much cement, to avoid smearing the sides. Windows can be cut out and be backed up with acetate windows, should interior lighting be desired. Some readers may even like to change the names on the various buildings to something more in keeping with their own railroad and locale. A number of signs are scattered throughout the Manual and may be used anywhere on the layout.
