Although there are 350,000 or more images to choose from, the collection is at present much stronger on 19th-century and early 20th-century subjects. This has come about in part because of the manner in which an archive such as this is developed. Collections donated to the Society are usually gained upon the death of an individual. Members and friends who have photographed more recent eras are fortunately still with us.
