Ski Train in Maine
Photographers Tim and Justin Franz take a look back at New Englands modern-day version of the famous ski trains that used the ply the rails in the golden era. Back in the early 1990s, the St. Lawrence & Atlantic tried to revive the tradition. The train was popular for a few years, running from Portland with stops in Yarmouth, Danville Junction and South Paris. After arriving in Bethel, shuttle buses would ferry skiers to the Sunday River ski area. Like all good things in railroading, it came to an abrupt end. But it was great while it lasted. Join us as we witness yellow geeps speeding through swirling snow in the scenic Maine countryside.

CP Rail-Quebec Central Detour
Photographer Jim Dufour recalls a dramatic winter chase back in 1988 when Canadian Pacific detoured trains over the dormant Quebec Central into Newport, Vermont during a bridge replacement project. Jim nailed CPs MLWs in the frigid cold and in dramatic fashion. The QC revival was short lived and rarely photographed. Jim brings us trackside to experience the action!
