At the extreme south end of the Cripple Creek District is located Victor. The great mines such as Stratton's Independence, Portland, Strong, Gold Coin, etc., are within what should be her corporate limits while Battle Mountain and Bull Hill lay untold riches at her feet. The city was incorporated in 1893 and has enjoyed a steady and legitimate growth from the start. The fire of 1899 swept away the entire business portion of the city. But with characteristic energy, its business men have filled the places once occupied with small frame structures with fine three and four floor brick buildings; its streets have been graded and extensive improvements have been made in the sanitary arrangements until today, Victor stands high among the beautiful cities of Colorado. The schools are excellent, the churches are good, the fire department sufficient to cope with any fire that might occur, the water system ample, electric lights, telephone, etc. The Florence and Cripple Creek and the Midland Terminal railroads pass through the city while the electric streetcar lines cover almost every nook and corner of the mountains. Victor has a population of 18,000 which includes the hills and surrounding territory.
