Progressive Railroading 1986 January The SOOs Cavanaugh
Progressive Railroading is published monthly. Vol29 #1. The cover, The Soo Lino makes a straight tine on our cover this month. In 1985 it also went straight to becoming a much more substantial Midwest carrier with the acquisition of the Milwaukee Road.
At the time of the last January issue most people ranked the Soo as a third place candidate in the bidding for the Milwaukee Road. But that did not deter it from winning the contest.
Now it moves on to a much larger role under the leadership of a comparatively young Dennis Cavanaugh. His credentials already are substantial. including having been in the heart of the responsibilities that go with running a railroad and, before that, important parts of a railroad.
The final chapter of the Milwaukee Road and the first of another "new Soo" were major events of 1985 that reach back and look ahead. Now, however. Mr. Cavanaugh looks ahead in the special article on page 29 of this issue.
