Progressive Railroading 1984 November CP Rails Teoli
Progressive Railroading is published monthly. Vol27 #11. The cover: American President Lines is now running stacked-container cars on weekly cross-country intermodal routes to Chicago and New York from Seattle. On the return westbound trip, the train will carry U.S. export cargo bound for Asia from the Chicago and New York areas, as well as domestic freight destined for Pacific Northwest consumers.
A train comprised of the new cars can carry 200 containers stacked two high. Earlier this year, APL was operating three trainsets of the new cars and it recently has added a fourth.
Details of the new interest in double-stack hauling has spurred new car designs plus special plans by Trailer Train. See page 28.
