Mr. George William Curtis wrote : \"The general objects of the League of Press Clubs, as I understand them, seem to me worthy of the most zealous promotion. I see no good reason why the courtesy of the press should not be as distinguished as its independence and vigor.\" Mr. Chester S. Lord wrote : \" I approve most assuredly of the objects and purposes which have led to the organization of the International League, and I wish the association every possible success.\" Hon. Theodore Barth wrote from Berlin : \" Unfortunately, my duties as a member of the German Reichstag, just now in session, do not permit the acceptance of the invitation. This I regret so much more because, in my opinion, the idea of uniting representatives of the press in international congresses is a very happy one. In view of the far-reaching and constantly growing influence of the press, its representatives can do more than legislators and diplomats for maintaining friendly relations among nations, towards removing nativistic prejudices, for exercising international justice and fostering especially interests which are 'common to all mankind.\" Colonel John A.
