The PRR Buckeye Division in 1964 consisted of that portion of the former Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Chicago & St. Louis Railway, commonly known as the Panhandle route that lies east of Indianapolis. The division map reveals that it was made up of the east-west main line "backbone" extending from west of Wheeling, West Virginia via Columbus and Dayton, Ohio to just east of the capital of Indiana. Alternate main lines extended between Columbus, Cincinnati, and Richmond as well as numerous branches. Since we have been blessed with an inordinate supply of detailed facility photographs on the eastern portion of this main line, we have elected to divide the Buckeye Division into two volumes. This, the first, will detail only the main line from Mingo Junction to just east of Columbus Union Depot. The second volume will examine the remainder of the Buckeye Division.
