The Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) built Pavonia Yard in 1883, running approximately north-south, between Cooper Avenue (now 27th Street) and Marlton Avenue (now State Street), in East Camden, N.J. The yard was situated just south of the Pavonia passenger station and on both sides of the Amboy Division's double-track main line to their Camden waterfront terminal. The passenger station, which was located just south of the junction with the Camden & Burlington County Railroad (C&BC), served the surrounding communities of Pavonia, Cramer Hill and Wrightsville. The yard's name, "Pavonia," came from a local land association, incorporated February 11, 1852, that had bought properties surrounding the railroad.
