Interest in old trolleybuses increased when it became obvious in the early 1960s that their days were numbered. More recently this interest has been boosted by the prospect of a new generation of trolleybuses serving the public by the end of the twentieth century. Meanwhile hundreds of hours of loving care have been spent on restoring those which have survived. They may be admired as static exhibits in Belfast, Cardiff, Dublin, Glasgow and London, but rides can be enjoyed on them at Carlton Colville, Suffolk, and Sandtoft, Humberside. This book traces their fascinating history since the first experiments in this mode of electric transport were carried out over one hundred years ago.

David Kaye left his post as Head of History in a Lincolnshire comprehensive school in 1979 to concentrate on freelance journalism. He is on the staff of Lincolnshire and Humberside Transport Review, contributes articles to Buses and Trolleybuses (being a member of the British Trolleybus Society) and has his own monthly feature in Lincolnshire Life. He is also the author of over twenty books on public transport, including the Shire Album Old Buses.
