Front cover: BN auto train 33 races westbound through a bridge between Index and Gold Bar, Washington, on July 3, 1989. The train has four units and is being led by GP50 No. 3137. The BN painted all but the first ten GP5Os in the highly visibly "Tiger Stripe" scheme. It wasn't well received by color critics, but it did serve its purpose!
Back cover: Three CN units pull a southbound coal train just west of Pitquah in the summer of 1987. The shot is taken from Skihist Park. Steve Jessup photo
