N&W Norfolk and Western Employee Magazine 1979 Coal is Key to Souths Future
Norfolk and Western Magazine is published monthly (except August) at Roanoke Va. Vol57 #1. About the cover, This is one of five photographs taken by Edward R. Long of Richmond, Indiana. Brakeman Roy Davis signals Engineer McFarland to stop. The photographs were taken in the Richmond:Newcastle, Indiana area, and most are of the new run-through freights. NW announced in December. 1975 that it planned to purchase the Cincinnati-New Castle line, which was then operated by Penn Central. The line, which was upgraded by NW, enables NW to shorten its east-west traffic route up to 130 miles. Line also enables NW to serve more industries in the Ohio-Indiana area.
