DUST JACKET INTRODUCTION
Once upon a time, in the days when railroads were the way to travel, there was a Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad, which spanned the continent from Seattle/ Tacoma to Indiana. With electrics in the West and streamlined, steam-powered Hiawathas in the East, the Milwaukee loomed larger in the public eye than its modest place in the railroad scheme of things.
But the Milwaukee fell on hard times and, in the 1980's, retreated to a slimmed down, EMD-powered Midwest carrier. Finally, in 1985, the Milwaukee Road was merged with its long-time neighbor, the Soo Line. This volume is intended as a tribute to, and a photographic remembrance of, the last years of a proud railroad, the MILWAUKEE ROAD.
