Newcastle's Steam Finale By Steve McNicole SC 1981
Newcastles Steam Finale By Steve McNicole Soft Cover Copyright 1981 60 Pages
INTRODUCTION
For those interested in railways and industry in general Newcastle is a most worthwhile place to visit. The massive steelworks and associated industry, the never ending stream of coal traffic, the railway workshops at Cardiff, coalmines, and the floating dock are only a few of the highlights the city and surrounding district have to offer. Ten years ago steam locomotives could still be found plying back and forth to the Maitland field (and other mines) shifting thousands of tons of coal a day. This book records the last five years of government steam engine workings around Newcastle, not only oh coal traffic, but general freight and passenger workings as well.
