Facts About New Jersey
FOREWORD
This booklet, "New Jersey the Garden State," presents briefly but vividly a few of the natural advantages that New Jersey offers to prospective farmers, home-owners and vacationists.
Due to its location, soil, climate, markets and natural resources, New Jersey offers opportunities that are not equalled by any other area in the United States. To the farmer, it offers benefits that cannot be found elsewhere. With no part of the state more than 125 miles from New York City and Philadelphia, two of the three largest consuming centers in America, the farmer is guaranteed unexcelled markets. Within the state are located urban and resort markets that are the envy of other states.
New Jersey offers opportunities for carrying on varied farming operations. Fruit and truck crop growing, poultry farming, potato growing, and dairying are leading agricultural enterprises. They and other agricultural occupations are favored by the state's mild climate.
The home-owner seeking a bit of land in the open, where he can have a garden, a flock of chickens and a few flowers, has a choice of a great variety of locations. With the rapid transit facilities available in every corner of the state, and good roads to every town and hamlet, it is possible for countless numbers of city workers to own and enjoy the benefits of a home in the country or nearby suburban communities.
While New Jersey has been recognized for many years as a vacation land, it has never exploited the advantages that it offers. No other state has mountain and lake resorts as well as seashore towns so closely within the reach of people who appreciate a day, a week or a season in the open.
