Published Quarterly. Front Cover: On February 1 5, 1951 photographer Steve Payne drove to Chatham, N.Y. in search of what little steam remained on the B&A mainline. The B&A at Chatham proved to be very quiet but, just before giving up for the day, Steve found B&A 4-6-2 #586, a K-1 4g class, leaving town on parent N.Y.C.'s Harlem Div. with a local freight. B&A steam in 1951 was B&A steam, regardless of what line it was on! Though he was not familiar with the Harlem Div., Steve decided to chase #586 south to photograph her in action. Thus one can almost hear the bark of her exhaust as she struggles to move her train over the upgrade curve at Philmont, N.Y. where he caught her in this dramatic view.
