NAWCC Bulletin #280 1992 October #280 National Watch & Clock Collectors
NAWCC Bulletin 1992 October #280 Mass Production
National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors. ABOUT THE COVERS
On the front cover, the Seth Thomas 4-dial street clock, in front of the NAWCC Headquarters and Museum, courtesy of Mrs. James Bruce Bell (Louise M.) and her sons. Photo by Pat Tomes. On the back cover, to celebrate the 500 years since Columbus discovered the Americas, a "Columbus Clock" made for the 1893 Chicago Columbian Exposition by Bostwick & Burgess, Norwalk, Ohio. Stamped with the likeness of Columbus and the date 1492, the clock is often mistaken to be one brought over on the Santa Maria. Note the acorn-shaped lead weights. Regulated by a foliot rather than a pendulum, this example is in its original shipping box with directions on its label. The NAWCC Museum has several "Columbus Clocks" in its collection.
