Mutual Magazine 1971 April
IN THIS ISSUE
We turned the clock back almost 66 years for our cover photo. It depicts a demonstration on May 16, 1905 when George Westinghouse unveiled the first single phase main line electric locomotive to delegates to the International Railway Congress, heralding widespread electrification of railroads the world over. Despite its high initial cost, railway electrification is still a very hot subject these days, primarily as a means of reducing air pollution.
The Penn Central's hopes for struggling out of bankruptcy were detailed last month by the Trustees before the Interstate and Foreign Commerce Subcommittee of the House of Representatives and the highlights of their testimony are covered in the short article on page 2.
In a lighter vein, we think you might enjoy the Metroman story which starts on page three. At the same time, we hope it makes you more safety conscious. It is not everyone who can preach safety and make people enjoy it. But Metro Man can.
You'll find some MBA Membership drive information on page 11 and we would aslo like to call your attention to the MBA coming events which are listed on page 18.
