MR. DAVIS'S RICHMOND is the story of the Confederate Capital, during the War between the States, as reported by its local press from day to day. Suddenly finding itself overrun by politicians and the military, as well as a host of undesirables, the once peaceful and orderly city was the scene of heroism, pathos, tragedy, laughter and tears. The chronicle of its hectic war years ended with the roar of explosions and a flaming sky as Yankee troops moved in.
The volume follows the same style and arrangement as MR. LINCOLN'S WASHINGTON. It does not attempt to detail history but completes the coverage of events in the capitals of the North and South from 1861 to 1865.
