Introduction
Montreal, the largest city in Canada during the heyday of streetcar operations, had a very extensive tramway network and a variety of equipment during the zenith of its operation. At one point the Montreal Tramways Company had more than 2,400 employees and over 1,200 passenger cars which operated over 320 miles of track. In addition to the passenger cars, the company had an extensive collection of work equipment numbering over 140 pieces. This volume, the second in the series, is dedicated to all those men and women who made a career in public transportation and dedicated their lives to serving the citizens of Montreal.
The names of places and streets contained in this volume reflect the names in use at the time of the events described. For example Dorchester Street became Dorchester Blvd. in 1954, subsequently renamed RenLBlvd.
It should be noted that all reports from newspapers, Montreal Tramways notices etc., have been copied verbatim and reflect the English in common use at the time of the report.
