Modernization of Car 15 and other Early C.E.R.A. Bulletins #35-45
MODERNIZATION OF CAR 15 AND OTHER EARLY C.E..R.A. BULLETINS -- BULLETINS 35 THROUGH 45.
Central Electric Railfans' Association has been pleased with the acceptance of the reprinting of its early bulletins. This publication continues the reproduction of early C.E.R.A. Bulletins. Bulletins 35 through 45 were originally published in 1942 and 1943 and give insight to selected railway operations in that and earlier periods. These early Bulletins have been made available as a means of preserving mementos of C.E.R.A.'s history. We trust that you will enjoy reading and rereading these Bulletins.
Front Cover:
On September 20, 1942, fresh from the shops, Chicago South Shore & South Bend car 15 together with 352 is on a C.E.R.A. fantrip at Warren Siding. In the background is the St. Joseph, South Bend & Southern bridge which along with Warren Siding, were removed in the 1950s. Warren Siding was located a few miles west of the present South Bend station at the Bendix plant. Car 352 was one of two six-wheel truck parlor cars on the South Shore line. Since parlor car service ended in 1932, car 352 was used only in special party service until it was sold in 1945. Car 15 was among the last six of the 1920s era cars that operated until September, 1983. Car 15 was the first car to be lengthened in a program that ultimately included eighteen coaches (11-28), the ten original combination cars (100-109) and two coaches, 10 and 29 which were rebuilt into combination cars in 1951 when the rebuilding program was terminated.
