FOREWORD
This edition of the Model Railroader Cyclopedia commemorates the 25 years of service which Model Railroader magazine and particularly its founder and publisher., A.C. Kalmbach, have developed to the hobby of model railroading.
Al kalmbach personally complied the early editions of this cyclopedia and we have follwed the same general principals he established in arranging newer drawings and data.
The drawings are reproduced in a uniform scale in order to make comparisons, combinations and rescaling a simpler operation. The size chosen was HO scale, not only because this is the most popular now in use, but also because it allows us to include many more drawings than we could with any larger scale.
Suggestions for converting plans form one scale to another are included on page 4. As has always been our preferred practice, the plans are dimensioned in prototype feet and inches rather than in fractional dimensions for a particular scale.
As steam locomotives are particularly interesting to modelers and are no longer seen in everyday railroading, we have included many photos to help in the interpretation of steam locomotive drawings and to illustrate how frequently the details of a particular steam engine were altered.
Because many of the drawings are of unusual quality, we have listed the names of the various draftsmen on a final page. We are grateful to be able to include so many fine drawings in one place - L.H.W.
All pictures are of the actual item.  There may be reflection from the lights in some photos.   We try to take photos of any damage.    If this is a railroad item, this material is obsolete and no longer in use by the railroad.  Please email with questions.
