The Missouri Pacific Lines, better known as the MoPac, was a relatively large railroad system. Its 7000 miles of rail blanketed the area west of St. Louis, Mo., as far as Omaha, Nebr., Pueblo, Colo., and southwest through Arkansas to Louisiana and Texas. Prior to merger with the Union Pacific in 1986, it extended its coverage to the nation's rail center at Chicago, Ill.
As second generation diesel power began to replace the original units, a more austere paint scheme of all-over blue was chosen for both the new and older locomotives. As other rail carriers abandoned their oftentimes exotic original paint schemes for something less costly, MoPac's choice was found to again have been a wise one. Its last change of color, however, was a contrasty one; as the blue gave way to Armour yellow following merger with the Union Pacific, in 1986.
All of this, from steam to early and late diesel power, is the subject of this book in full color views that were chosen to best display the locomotives, trains, and equipment of the MoPac between 1945 and the forthcoming merger in the early 1980's. A brand new perspective of this once-popular and engaging rail carrier is presented within this volume.
