Inside Book
This second pictorial volume in Four Ways West Publications' Milwaukee Road Series presents information and data on Milwaukee Road's First Generation switcher and road switcher diesel locomotive fleet that were built by the Electro-Motive Corporation and General Motors: Electro-Motive Division. Color as well as black and white photographs of these locomotives in freight train, freight yard, and transfer service have been included in this volume.
The SW1, NW2, SW7, SW9, and SW1200s are covered in the first section, which has been entitled "Switchers". The second section presents the TR2A-B and TR4A-B classification yard locomotives, which were
semi-permanently coupled "Cow and Calf" units. These locomotives were also nicknamed as "the Hump Locomotives".
Milwaukee Road owned an extensive roster of GP9 locomotives. These Geeps, as they were nicknamed, are covered in this volume's third section. The last section in this volume presents "the Cadillacs", which were Milwaukee Road's SD7 and SD9 locomotives.
An Appendix has been included in this second volume. Selected GP9 assignments to passenger and freight trains have been included. It also lists the diesel engine models that powered Electro-Motive Division's locomotives, which Milwaukee Road owned.
