FOREWORD
One of INTERURBANS' most popular publications was Special 18, "Los Angeles Pacific." Published in November, 1955, the issue sold out in record time. We expect to publish a revised and enlarged version of this work in a year or so, and thus the reader may well ask, "SO, why this 'LAP Album?"'
The answer lies in the fact that material contained in Special 18 is quite sufficient to make a good sized book of its own; to add the material in Special 40 would run the combined work to an inordinate number of pages.
Another question might well be, "How does it happen that so great a quantity of new material has been unearthed to make it possible to publish a completely new book?"
Here we acknowledge the debt owed to Mr. Carl Blaubach of the California Public Utilities Commission. Mr. Blaubach was loaned one of the most unusual photo albums your editor has yet had the privilege of inspecting. Page after page of mint condition photographs, all dealing with Los Angeles Pacific in its prime, are there---most never before published. This album was the property of the late Mr. T. L. Wagenbach, a former LAP and Pacific Electric official (he became PE General Manager in 1948). The Wagenbach album forms the basic Special 40. To it have been added photos unearthed since Special 18 appeared; these tardy jewels usually are accompanied by such expressions as: "If only I had known you were planning a book on this topic!"
Photos not bearing a credit line are from the Wagenbach album, with others identified individually by initials of contributor.
