INDEX 95
At 10:30- a.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 1910, a group of twenty-one businessmen from Utica, New York boarded a chartered interurban car with a special interior and set off on a trip that could only be described as an adventure. During the next two weeks this group travelled approximately 2,000 miles, all on various electric railways, on a route including 28 different interurban companies plus numerous streetcar lines in six states.
Highlights of their trip included Buffalo, Ashtabula Harbor, Cleveland, Columbus, the NCR plant in Dayton, Churchill Downs in Louisville, the Indianapolis automobile race track, Fort Wayne, Toledo and Detroit. At three locations a local trolley car was used for local sightseeing. Many prominent individuals participated in this trip in one way or another, the most famous undoubtedly was Warren G. Harding, later to become President of the United States.
