The 24-RL Brake Equipment provides a basic locomotive equipment which can be converted for use in the type of freight or passenger brake service required, by the addition of the necessary parts and without disturbing the basic equipment or piping. Steam and Diesel-Electric locomotives equipped with this brake may be used in any kind of service including high speed passenger and road freight service.
The design of this brake equipment uses the same general principles employed on predecessor locomotive equipments and provides all the functions in an equal or improved manner, with the feature of being permitted to limit the equipment to those functions required by the service in which the locomotive operates.
