DUST JACKET INTRODUCTION:
The London and North Western, prior to the `grouping' of the privately owned railways in Britain in 1923, was the largest joint stock corporation operating a railway anywhere in the world and had a unique presence. In this lavish book, printed on heavyweight art paper with reproduction quality to match, a consortium of expert authors - see rear flap - has combined to describe and explain the outward manifestation of this celebrated company in terms of livery and decor. First published in 1985, but not widely known to the general public, this important and definitive work on Britain's largest and arguably most important railway company is now made available to all, thanks to yet another collaborative effort between the Historical Model Railway Society and Atlantic Transport Publishers.
This re-issued work, packed with comprehensive photographs, drawings and detail, will obviously be of great interest to modelmakers but is of equal value to those who wish to know more of the intricate attention to detail practised by one of our greatest railway companies. This book is part of a strictly limited edition of 1200 copies only and may never be reprinted.
