Lionel entered a new era in 1970 when MPC took over production of the Lionel line. Already many of the items produced in 1970 have been or are about to be discontinued. Even some of the 1971 items appear to be in short supply.

Collectors now have a golden opportunity to acquire a complete collection of Lionel-MPC items. This new Illustrated Supplement will be an invaluable aid in forming such a collection.

The Lionel-MPC collector can concentrate on either major items or include many major or minor varieties as he chooses. To this end, we have listed as many varieties as are known to us: i.e., those which we actually have seen for ourselves. The collector of box cars will find many varieties to seek out; the end imprint varieties (Lionel MPC on one end and 9040; or 9200 series on the other end); the 9204 "built date missing" examples; and the "G" placement variety on the 9090 Mini-Max cars.

If you're a tank car fiend, hunt down the 9250 triple dome GMCX car with the old metal trucks. These are actually mentioned in the 1971 catalog: the later variety with plastic trucks and metal wheels is the uncataloged variety.

The diesel loco fancier should take note that both the 8030 and 8031 GP locos have appeared with distinctly different handrail posts.

The new items to appear during 1972 will add even further zest to a collection of Lionel-MPC items. It looks like an exciting time ahead for those collectors who are going to concentrate on this new era.
