DUST JACKET INTRODUCTION
Stretching between eastern New Jersey and the Niagara Frontier area of western New York State, the Lehigh Valley was an "Anthracite" railroad that was originally built to haul coal out of eastern Pennsylvania. Early in the 20th century it expanded westward to reach Buffalo and Niagara Falls. In its last decades of operation in the 1960s and `70s, the Lehigh Valley had a dedicated following of fans who were attracted by its underdog status among the northeastern railroads, and its fascinating variety of locomotives with their kaleidoscopic variety of paint schemes. One such fan was Ken Kraemer from the Buffalo, New York, area. Ken spent much time documenting the LV's operations with his cameras from the mid-1950s through those most interesting years of the 1960s and `70s, until the railroad's demise in April of 1976. With emphasis on the often ignored west-end of the line, this book contains over 250 of Ken's photos in both color and black-and-white.
