He began his photographic career in 1935 and remained active into the late 1990s, concentrating primarily on the Canadian Pacific system but also recording the Canadian National Railways, as well as lines in the northern United States in the immediate post-World War Two era. As a result, there are many collections containing Stuckey prints. He was also incredibly generous with his shots and, soon after BRMNA commenced its Canadian Pacific in the Rockies series, Lawrence wrote, sending photographs together with information on each one. Luckily for us, he was a confirmed diarist and kept extensive notes on a daily basis, as well as recording appropriate information on the shots he took. This has made preparing this book relatively easy, as his longtime friend Bill McGuire made Lawrence's notes available.
