ON THE BACK COVER
Over the years, West Allis has progressed from a busy hamlet on the banks of Honey Creek to a stout industrial city. West Allis came of age in the early 20th century as groups of immigrating Germans, Poles, and Slays joined original settlers to build a community that is now quickly approaching 100 years of success and vitality. Home to industrial giants such as the Allis-Chalmers Company and Kearney and Trecker Corporation, West Allis manufactured the machines, parts, and equipment essential to the growth of the nation. The city, host of the Wisconsin State Fair, seamlessly blends industry and community.
Albert Muchka, a life-long citizen of West Allis and active member of the West Allis Historical Commission and West Allis Public Library Board, holds a M.A. in Public History and a Certificate in Museum Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He currently works as Associate Curator of American and Local History at the Milwaukee Public Museum.
The Images of America series celebrates the history of neighborhoods, towns, and cities across the country. Using archival photographs, each title presents the distinctive stories from the past that shape the character of the community today. Arcadia is proud to play a part in the preservation of local heritage, making history available to all.
