DUST JACKET INTRODUCTION:
The Illinois Terminal system was a vast operation covering much of central Illinois with a lifespan of almost 60 years. The Illinois Terminal was not your "typical" interurban. Rather, a steam railroad that chose electrification over steam for motive power. Long freight trains powered by electric, steam, and finally diesel locomotives alongside electrically powered interurban-style passenger cars characterized the Illinois Terminal system.
