INTRODUCTION
Hidden in the Paulins Kill Valley of the Kittatinny Mountain lies the northwestern New Jersey Village of Blairstown known for its preparatory school, Blair Academy. This is also the place where the ghosts of the Blairstown "Dinkey" Railway lurk.
Blairstown has been along the route of four railroads: the Blairstown Railway, the New York Susquehanna and Western Railroad, the Lehigh and New England Railroad and the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad. Now only the remnants of the once great Lackawanna remain, using the famous DL&W Cutoff from Port Morris, New Jersey to the Delaware Water Gap. The route used by the other three lines was last used in August 1962 with the rails being removed in September 1962.
Blairstown was also along the route of the proposed South Mountain and Boston Railroad, but the line never got beyond the grading stage.
