This volume is a detailed look at the internal combustion vehicles of the largest of the Maine Two-foot gauge railroads, the Sandy River & and Rangeley Lakes R.R. with additional information on the line's handcars. While some of this information has been available piecemeal from books, new information from the 1923 receiver's inventory and careful examination of the photographic record of these vehicles has led to a better understanding of their history and use. This book contains technical histories and details, photographs of the vehicles during their use on the line, and new, accurate drawings of some of the railcars, done by Wesley Ewell. I particularly want to thank Wesley J. Ewell for the use of his drawings in this book, and I hope the modeler and historian will find them of value. - Peter S. Barney
