Introduction
'Railways in Profile No. 2 - Great Western Stations' proved to be a very popular title (now out of print) and there has been a steady stream of requests to see more of the station photographs within the Nelson collection. This volume therefore contains a selection of pre-grouping companies absorbed by the GWR and ex-GWR stations within Wales. The area of South Wales has been purposely omitted, as so many books have been produced to cover that area - thus this volume concentrates on the rest of Wales. The views chosen hopefully will help the modeller with aspects of station architecture, furniture, track layouts and all those features necessary to produce an accurate scale model.
The references used in the captions are as follows.-
'T' : the date when the photograph was taken.
'P' : the date when the station/halt was closed to passenger traffic.
'G' : the date when the station/halt was closed to goods traffic.
'F' : the date when the station complex was finally closed.
N.B. 'G' the date given here does not take into account goods traffic to private sidings which may have continued after the station closed for ordinary freight working. It also should be noted that the station names in this volume are spelt as found in the Great Western Timetable of the period and may not reflect the Welsh spellings of today.
