A native of Lawrence, Kansas, the author's interest in trains goes back as far as he can recall. His first locomotive photos were taken when he received his first camera at the age of eight. In 1948 the author began photographing the various types of railroad motive power in earnest, first around Lawrence and Kansas City, and then on longer trips to other parts of the country. After graduation from the University of Kansas and a tour in the Air Force, he has been working in the Chicago area since 1956. This volume is Bob's ninth book on locomotives and trains since 1964.
