The Gilpin Gold Tram was the only two-foot gauge railroad in Colorado a state noted for its narrow-gauge lines. Though short-lived this colorful little railroad added an exciting chapter to the history of Colorado.

Serving as the main artery for the flow of ore from the mines above Central City to the smelters at Black-hawk, the Tram twisted and turned its way over some 20 miles of track pulled by Shay locomotives.

Today the Gilpin Tramway is preserved in fading old photographs yellowing waybills an occasional spike from the old railbed on Banta Hill and ... memories.

In places, the stone wall grade of the old road can still be seen around Central City and Blackhawk as a reminder of a time when the Tram was an integral part of this historic community.

The Gilpin Gold Tram is a real adventure in railroading and mining. The book contains 108 superb historic black and white photos, most of which have never before been published, and include wrecks, snowstorms. excursion trains and many others. There are also three maps (one in full color) sketches and scale drawings of the cars and Shay locomotives.

A book that will be treasured by every rail fan.
