A road shown as improved can be negotiated by most any vehicle, although vehicles with low clearance could experience problems in some places. Unimproved roads usually require sufficient clearance, and four-wheel drive is recommended but not always necessary. Jeep trails and pack trails are shown with the same symbol, but are usually labeled appropriately. Definitely plan on using a four-wheel drive vehicle for jeep trails. I have found that some of these trails are designed to accommodate narrow wheelbase (i.e. Jeep) vehicles, although a careful driver can travel these in a wider based vehicle such as a full-size Blazer (which happens to be the vehicle I standardly use). Note that the U.S.G.S. maps may not indicate Wilderness Area boundaries.
