FROM THE AUTHOR:
Ghost Rails III Electrics of the Upper Ohio Valley  is my sixth book. After my first three books I finally figured it out, the railroads and industries I was writing about had "gone ghost." I had arrived with my goal and pursuit to preserve history along the Ohio, Pa. and now the West Virginia state lines. The Yellow Car Line along the Ohio River and the Youngstown and Ohio River that followed and crossed the Little Beaver Creek water sheds, I have walked and followed, it seems all my life. First by a family car, from school buses, and later by walking. The right of ways and the waters flow seem to lead me, and like the streams and the seas, I am never full. The histories and answers elude me, always; my research is only one step closer to the truth. I am haunted by what remains behind.
Reading Ghost Rails III can be tough and confusing. A shaded gray block with bold text introduces a new unit, but that unit can be related to the previous unit. The Y&O is pretty much a straight story, a documented text followed mile by mile, Salem to East Liverpool. The SEL&BVT traction history is difficult, told in separate units by the years and milepost; it then repeats itself by the next organization and the mileposts. The end result is a near perfect sum history added by the years, miles, and pages.
