INTRODUCTION
Simply stated, the E and F design diesel-electric locomotives were the world's greatest influence in locomotive streamlining. Conceived in the later 1930's for economy and efficiency, these locomotives also sported colorful paint schemes representing a new departure in contrast to the older, dark steam locomotives, and fired the flame of the American Dream. Who could not fall in love with the colorful brand-new E units,,back-to-back, pulling a new lightweight, luxury silver streamliner from such places as Chicago and New York to exotic California and Florida, or, Funits in an A-B-B-A combination drumming a freight across the continent? Getting there was the fun, in those those unhurried days, before, the super highway systems and the airlines expansion for the masses. Seeing these trains could make the blood run cold, a feeling today that can be compared only with the full-burn thunderous takeoff of a 747 jetliner, that freezes the attention of everybody, including the most blascaptain. The Funits finest moments were during World War II, delivering the freight, speeding-up the homefront war effort. Nothing will ever replace these major railway monuments.
