PREFACE
My life has been full of unusual, unique experiences. If the days became rather routine I would stir things up much like I observed that my grandfather had done. I have had longevity, great assignments, and demanding schedules. My life time interest in railroads has brought about both investments and travel. I came from a family of "doers" who set an example of what can be accomplished in a life time.
Intellectual curiosity and a love of learning was further stimulated at Rutgers University so it seemed natural to keep going in night classes at the New School in New York City and later in Honolulu to an MA at the University of Hawaii in "my spare time."
My independent personality helped me start my own business, Portfolio Consultants of Hawaii. I took early retirement after forty years service with Dun & Bradstreet, Inc. I was rehired for "outsourcing" for another ten years.
I couldn't have made it without my alter ego, Barbara, who is also my best friend. Together we have been good roommates and happy campers.
You may read this book and think if Jim Betts can do it, so can I. Come ahead and enjoy your life, too.
