Until the direct St Pancras - Glasgow service was withdrawn in 1977, there was an overnight service which left Glasgow at 22.50 and travelled via Kilmarnock and Carlisle to arrive at Skipton at 03.26. Thus, I would leave my car at Skipton and book a day return to Glasgow (there was a fare but no printed tickets so one would be specially written out for me). After the show, I would make my way down Hope Street to Glasgow Central station where the train would be waiting - mainly parcels and mail vans but having two Mark 1 coaches at the back- I was usually the only passenger to alight at Skipton - the staff who were them to unload parcels often seemed surprised to see me - I would drive home from there for a couple of hours sleep before leaving for wherever I was working the day after. When the service was cut back to Nottingham -Carlisle, the service was officially withdrawn (the train still ran but with its passenger accommodation locked) despite the fact that it had been well used by passengers - I know, I saw them! After this, I used my car for the whole journey or drove to Preston to pick up the train there.
