Four Seasons Country boasts a rich history and culture. From baseball to the coal mines, the traditions of the region have helped to make its people who they are proud of their heritage, committed to remembering the past and devoted to community and family. In the following pages, photos submitted by area residents reveal part of their personal history and the history that binds each of us who has lived here. Some of us will remember the old sports teams, the trains and maybe even the way the towns looked back when people rode in street cars instead of sport utility vehicles. For others who look through this book, many of the photos reveal a time before our time, a time we can imagine and appreciate with the help of these pictures. Dolly Parton performing with Porter Wagner at the Bramwell fair, a group of eighth-graders graduating from Thorn School in Princeton, a look inside a Pocahontas, Va., mine: We may not know each person and we may not have visited each place, but now we can travel across Four Seasons Country meeting its people, its places and the unique value each has to offer.
