Andrew and Thea Foss came to America in the late 1800's with the conviction that success in any endeavor was dependent upon pride, perseverence and above all hard work. Using these basic ideals they were able to establish and maintain a rowboat rental business. Over the years that business progressed from "rowboats to towboats" and is now a driving force on the national and international maritime sceneFoss Launch and Tug Company. The evolution of the Foss Company goes hand in hand with the development of the Pacific Northwest.
Author Michael Skalley herein chronicles in text and photographs the Foss Company's Founders and its fleet decade by decade. Mr. Skalley's work is accented by the methodically researched pen and ink artistry of James A. Cole. With its wealth of technical data and unique illustrations, "Ninety Years of Towboating" is designed to satisfy the discerning maritime aficionado as well as the armchair sailor.
So then, ready fore and aft! You are invited to join us on an entertaining, informational journey with the Foss Launch and Tug Company. A journey spanning ninety years aboard over one hundred forty row, tug and towboats.
