INTRODUCTION
Landscape is the base for the scenery to start on and is a most important factor for the modelling fraternity and the possibilities are never-ending. With a little care and patience on the part of the modeller, an authentic replica of landscapes, as we see them, can be achieved. Apart from the various aspects of landscapes as detailed in this volume the individual modeller can use his own initiative to increase the interest of model railways in general. To build up a landscape effect with a mountainous region for example, can be just as interesting as the normal flat countryside we are used to seeing in the South East part of the country which can also be made to look authentic with a bit of thought and patience. A point to remember is that to over do landscaping can not only spoil the effect but will tend to confuse the whole layout system. Careful planning on which type of landscape is required and a general survey of the baseboard will help achieve this aim. Obviously there are bound to be snags that may occur. The sole object of this book is to assist the model railway enthusiast to increase the limited scope that an average model railway provides to get as much authenticity as possible from his hobby. Not only does this volume include natural landscape but also man-made achievements such as quarries, airports, golf courses etc. are included.
