FLORENCE & CRIPPLE CREEK Forty Miles to Fortune does not attempt to illusfrate the entire history of the Cripple Creek Mining District or the Florence Sr Cripple Creek Railroad, but rather captures a moment in time the formative years of this once vast monument to industry and the first railroad to serve the district's gold mines. This book has been the culmination of 15 years of image collecting and several years of research and documentation. However, it is not the result of just one person. Rarely is a project of this magnitude assembled solely through the efforts of a single individual, and this book is no exception. It has been a collaborative effort and the accumulation of the knowledge, artifacts and memories of many enthusiasts of Colorado history. It is to these individuals and institutions that I am deeply indebted, for without their assistance, a dream would have never become a reality.
