How did we assemble this information and the detailed rosters that are included? It was not easy. There is no \"master\" B\u0026amp;O caboose record. Various departments kept the records that were necessary to the scope of their particular department. Transportation was interested in what was out there and where it was; property accounting was interested in keeping an accurate count of quantities and betterments which might change the value of the assets; mechanical was interested in controlling modifications, designs, and painting and lettering schemes; etc. We made systematic inroads into those departments to mine what information they had. At one time we were told that old B\u0026amp;O records no longer existed, destroyed by one of the many fires that plagued the B\u0026amp;O in their home city over the years. We found that was not always the case.
