ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY YEARS
In the formative stages of development, book projects acquire code names that rarely survive to publication ... for example, Impossible Challenge was "Odyssey" and West End "Three Seasons." The code for East End was "East End" and the co-authors were in complete agreement at the beginning that this would not be the name of the book.
Fifty-two titles were considered and rejected before final selection was decided. A few finalists were Neck of the Bottle (which survived as a subhead), Quart into Pint, Neck, Chokepoint, Throat, Artery, Flood, Funnel, Floodtide, Deluge, Lifeline and Link. We will spare the reader our selections related to the digestive tract save for Constipation.
